Company Background

Kenosha Metal Products is a family-owned metals company that has been around for over 45 years. They focus on metal stamping, small assembly, and welding to serve a variety of industries, with a heavy emphasis on the North American automotive industry. They rely heavily on compressed air for all their operations including powering their tool room, machine room, press room, automation robots, and for CMM work.

Zorn's Data-Logging

Kenosha Metal Products has always been loyal to Quincy machines. They were operating a modulation control QSI 245, 50 hp unit from 1998 rated for 245 cfm and operating 16 hours a day. While this unit had served their facility well for years, it became high in operating hours and was running out of capacity on their current max flow shifts. They knew they needed a new compressor for reliability, efficiency, and growth so they called Zorn in to do a full data-logging to accurately capture their true demand and guide recommendations for a new air compressor.

Energy Savings Solution

After the data logging was completed, the Zorn team found that they could benefit from a slightly larger horsepower machine with variable speed technology. Zorn recommended a Quincy QGV-60, oil-lubricated rotary screw air compressor rated for 67cfm to 302.8 cfm at 100 psig, as this unit would be the most efficient compressor for their operations. Kenosha Metal Products had Zorn install this variable speed compressor which allows for both increased efficiency and room for growth in their metal operations.

By installing this unit, Kenosha Metal Products observes an estimated $8,300/year in savings. This project also qualified them for a local energy company, Focus on Energy, incentive. This unit, complete with a Quincy QPNC Non-Cycling Refrigerated Air Dryer, ensures their operations receive adequate, reliable air throughout all their demand shifts. This customer also kept their old unit as a backup.

Customer Review

“For me, working with Zorn Compressor is not as much about the equipment, but Zorn’s ongoing service and communication that has made it so easy to keep our compressor up and running and therefore our entire facility.”
